Teach a man to fish

Opening title for this autobiographical documentary. Teach a man to fish premiered at the Sydney Film Festival 2018.

The film follows an emotional journey of Aboriginal filmmaker, Grant Leigh Saunders, coming to terms with his identity in his mid-40s. Despite a promising artistic career, Grant has secretly wanted to be a fisherman, just like his father Ray and his grandfather Horace before him. On the eve of Ray’s retirement, Grant finally convinces him to pass on the family trade. As Grant learns to catch fish he casts questions about the history of his family’s triumph over trauma that allowed him to be a third-generation Aboriginal fisherman.

Written and directed by Grant Leigh Saunders. Executive Producer Tom Zubrycki.
